Draft regulation on protecting of laying hens in USA

(Message from Jurek Duszyński Poznań, Poland j.duszynski@rsepliz.most.org.pl)

TO CAA MEMBERS FROM ILLINOIS:

Please support Illinois House Bill 756 or the Safe Food and Laying Hen Protection Act. This bill will ban force molting, a process of starving laying hens for up to 21 days. The bill also protects consumers who because of the higher incidence of Salmonella enteritidis (Se) with eggs from hens who are force molted, suffer over 800,000 to 4 million cases of severe illness due to Se. According to Consumer Union 500-1000 Americans die from Se every year.

If you live in Illinois or have Illinois members, please ask them to call their state representative and ask the representative to become a co-sponsor of HB 756. If you do not know the telephone number of your state representative call 217-782-8223 and ask them to transfer you to your local state representative. If you are unsure who your state representative is please call Don Rolla of HPAC at 217-897-6716 or call your local league of women voters or your local city hall.

PLEASE CALL IMMEDIATELY AS THE BILL CAN BE HEARD AT ANY TIME.

Thanks for your help.
